By @strictly_monotheist “Salam,
A great misconception has entered the Hadith collection to portray the age of Aisha ra as an astonishing 6/7 when she was approached for marriage by the prophet himself, consummating the marriage at the age of 9. This is not only against the Quran but a full out disrespect to the prophet himself, what’s appalling is that those who claim to love the prophet, honor him, exalt him are the ones who do not see anything wrong with this blasphemy, they do not realize that this is used against the prophet and the disrespect rises on a grand scale. It is also used to justify child marriages across the Middle East, forcing child brides to marry much older men, while disrespecting the command of God found in the Quran (4:5-6), it is nothing but pure oppression on young girls to take their potential bright futures away from them and keep them isolated, uneducated, and obedient according to mens standards.
Where did the Hadith come from? It came from one person by the name of Hisham Ibn Urwah who was born 36 years after the prophet’s death, and reported this narration on the authority of his father. He was known to have lived for 71 years in Medina then later moved to Iraq where it was reported that his memory was failing him, it would make sense that more then one author would have reported Aisha’s age to have been 9 when she married, but no other reports have been found to confirm this age.
The general acceptance of when Aisha lived with the prophet was the year 623/624 CE. There are reports that claim that all of Abu Bakr’s children were born before 610 CE.
There are also claims that Aisha was present in the battle of Badr and Uhud, the minimum age was 15 for battle, the battle of Badr happened in the year 624.
We find reports comparing Aisha’s age with her older sister Asma. According to almost all the historians, Asma, the elder sister of Ayesha was 10 years older than Ayesha. If Asma was 100 years old in 73 AH, she should have been 27 or 28 years old at the time of the hijrah.”
